  Help for streaming video
It’s not hard to optimize your system for streaming media—and it’s definitely worth the short amount of time required.
Here are some common troubles and ways to optimize playback.

Is your browser up to date?

Use either Internet Explorer 5.0 (or later) or Netscape 4.7 (or later). New browsers are available free at the Netscape download page or the Microsoft download page.

FAQ: Why does RealPlayer not open automatically when you click on a RealMedia link in Netscape 6?
See the answer here

  Are you behind a firewall?
If you have problems receiving streaming video, you may need to open additional ports in your firewall. For information regarding which ports to open on firewalls per Transport protocol (HTTP/TCP/UDP), please see the following websites:

  Microsoft Firewall Information
  RealNetworks Firewall Support

Are you using UNIX or Linux?
UNIX and Linux require special media players for streaming video. RealNetworks has developed players for these platforms and made them available for free here.

Once you’ve downloaded your player, choose “RealPlayer” when attempting to stream video.
